In 2008, I began photographing my family. My father has been a landscaper, a janitor and an odd-jobs man my whole life. In 2010 his diabetes began to take over; he lost his job and has since been unemployed. Between the beginning of his health problems and today, he has been in and out of the hospital for multiple toe amputations and eventually in 2017, he had his right foot and lower leg amputated up to the knee. In 2016, his kidneys started to fail after a bad reaction to a medication he was on and now he is struggling to lose weight so he might be eligible for a kidney transplant.

Once an ablebodied and constantly-busy man, my father's life has changed dramatically. As of today, he is still learning to use a prosthetic leg and spends a great portion of his time at a local dialysis center.
